If you think hyaluronic acid is just another buzzword, think again. This ingredient does such a great job at hydrating skin, it has to be more than a passing trend. In this post we'll cover the ins and outs of hyaluronic acid and how to properly incorporate it into your skincare routine.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID
According to Wikipedia:
Hyaluronic acid (HA; conjugate base hyaluronate), also called hyaluronan, is an anionic, nonsulfated glycosaminoglycan distributed widely throughout connective, epithelial, and neural tissues.
Basically, the above says that hyaluronic acid is something our body produces naturally. It's used for things like lubricating our joints.
When it comes to HA as an ingredient in skincare, it works wonders this way: just one gram of HA has the ability to hold 6 litres of water. Woah!
WHO SHOULD USE HYALURONIC ACID
Hyaluronic acid is truly an ingredient that all skin types can benefit from.
Normal to Ageing Skin
There has been much research conducted on its ability to hydrate and plump skin, and in return, help combat the signs of ageing.
Because it's a gentle, non-irritating ingredient, it works to gently hydrate sensitive skin.
Acne prone sufferers usually want to stay away from oils (there's a fine line here- some oils are ok for acne prone skin). A great way to moisturize oily skin without oils is to use an oil-free gel with HA (like our Moisture Boost).
HOW TO GET BEST RESULTS
The trick to getting the most out of our Moisture Boost is to dampen your skin before applying the treatment. Either by misting your face with a Face Mist or using plain, old tap water, moisten your face. Then apply 1-2 pumps of Moisture Boost. Allow a few minutes for the product to dry. Some say it can feel a bit sticky- because this is a natural product with NO silicones, the feeling may be a bit different than a traditional gel formula that applies smooth.
You can also layer a lotion or oil serum over Moisture Boost to lock in the hydration. It's not necessary, but can be useful for some skin types. You can also apply your makeup shortly after application.
