Do you suffer from the Sunday scaries? aka the anxiety that sets in on Sunday nights with the impending return to the office, school, or work. It usually starts creeping up in the afternoon or maybe you start experiencing it first thing Sunday morning. It's a feeling of dread that most of us have experienced at some point. In this post, we look at how to make the best of your weekends so you feel more fulfilled and happy on Sundays... and how to use your Sundays to calm your anxiety.
THE TRICK TO BEATING THE SUNDAY BLUES
According to a recent study, the trick is to think of your weekend as two full days of vacation. Yeah, it's as easy as that. Apparently. The study looked at two groups: one was told to treat their weekend as the same old, same old, and the second was told to go into vacation mode. They returned to work on Monday and rated their level of happiness. It turns out that when 5 p.m. comes around on Friday, you're better off heading home in vacation mode.
RECONNECT WITH YOUR WORK WEEK
Another study found that reconnecting with your work can help you be more engaged and productive. Sunday evenings are a great time to look at the week ahead and mentally take note of everything that you have going on. Whether you prefer writing everything down in a planner or journal (or white board, etc.) or keeping track in your phone's calendar, Sundays are a good time to look at the week ahead. Of course, you'd do this once you're coming out of vacation mode. ;)
RELAX AND SELF-CARE THE HECK OUT OF SUNDAYS
One thing we're BIG on here at Robi is SELF-CARE. It's become such a trendy term... it's almost lost its value thanks to social media. But seriously, caring for yourself is such a huge part of feeling happy. And if you need that extra self-care on Sundays, then go for it. Book a massage, get your nails done, meet up with your friend for brunch, etc. Do the fun things. And end the day with what makes you the most chill... maybe yoga // meditation // good book // bubble bath // Netflix & chill? Whatever it is that makes you feel the most calm and at peace. That means no house chores, well, unless that calms you down!
ONE LAST LITTLE TIP
Alcohol can play a major role in the Sunday scaries. If you imbibe a little too much on Saturday night, you may feel even more anxious on Sunday. To feel the most fresh and happy on a Sunday, it may a good idea to drink only 1-2 alcoholic bevvies (or none!).
How do you beat the Sunday blues?
